Soothing sounds of water greets the visitor upon entry

This three-storey house, perched on a hill in Bukit Timah, is tailored to the demands of entertaining, art collecting and raising a precocious toddler. The owners brief to the Interior Designer was to create a modern tropical-esque home and sanctuary. The house’s interior tone and artistic aspirations are evident from the moment you enter. The soothing sound of moving water, soft warm lightings and cool limestone tiles will instantly transport you to a dream modern tropical resort getaway.

A warm and inviting ambiance created by blending textures and contrasts

The owners wanted a massive internal overhaul to define their new home and satisfy their contemporary design tastes but still retain the traditional modern tropical architecture of the house.

The living room furniture have taut modern lines – a  slim upholstered sofa surround a clear glass coffee table, warm dark timber wall backdrop fronting the television unit – but the look is tempered by a warm palette of charcoal, tobacco and a brassy shot of sunny yellow at the stairwell.

Another big attraction in this house is the tropical landscaping surrounding its perimeters. From the front of the house, a manicured lawn is peppered with luscious palms and foliage. This modern tropical space was further enhanced by the use of limestone flooring and rustic roofing so that it exists as an extension to the adjacent kitchen and also serves as an informal outdoor dining space.
